I believe this photo perfectly captures the idea of the ‘forest of dancing trees’, as the Speulderbos is nicknamed.
And not only because of the shapes of the trees, but also for the way the sunlight dances with them.

It was early in the morning: the still immature light of the rising sun and the cloud cover could make the atmosphere in the forest seem ‘dull’.
But what the camera ‘sees’ is different from what the human eye perceives, and in those lighting conditions all the colors and details of a splendid undergrowth emerged.

The harsh sunlight, which burns colors and exaggerates contrasts, is the “great enemy” of photography in the woods.
For this reason, diffused light from clouds, which is softer and more friendly, is generally needed.
But when the sun sinks toward the horizon and its rays filter through the canopies, very interesting situations can arise.

I had long dreamed of visiting the Speulderbos forest in the Netherlands in autumn, when the foliage sets the woods ablaze with color.
Known as “the forest of dancing trees”, I expected to find a lovely beech forest, with a few graceful trunks and some interesting views, but nothing more.
To my surprise, I found myself instead in an enchanted woodland, where every glance stirs a sense of wonder and fills both eyes and soul with quiet joy.
