Lost in a birch forest near Grövelsjön, close to the border between Sweden and Norway, I came across this sequence of rotting trunks lying on their deathbed made of blueberries, watched over by younger trees like silent relatives gathered in prayer. Suddently, some twisted roots grabbed my gaze like a cold arthritic hand, and dragged me into a visual path through the history of that little corner of paradise.

Wandering around Grövelsjön, near the border between Sweden and Norway, I saw this isolated birch from afar, located near a wetland with spots of cottongrass. As I approached, I was fascinated by its elegance, grace and beauty.

It is not easy to explain how I can be happy in being in the rain and with my boots sunk in a bog surrounded by many birches and cloudberries. It took me a lot of time to be able to get a decent composition into that beautiful chaos of colors and shapes, during the ephemeral Swedish autumn near lake Harundsjon.

It was early September, and I decided to wake up before dawn to be able to enjoy the sunrise from Knuthöjdsmossen nature reserve. I sat on the shore of one of the many lakes in the area, surrounded by a gentle mist, tasting the silence and absolute peace. I decided to shoot when the first rays of the sun cleared the sky. The composition, centered and symmetrical, wants to reflect the absolute stillness of that moment.
