A dear friend told me, “If you miss a picture, you come back and try again, again and again.”
So, for the third time, I went back to Hraunfossar waterfall (not exactly near where I live) trying to succeed where I had always failed in the past.
I think I am finally satisfied with the result.

Many years have passed since I first fell in love with this old and twisted beech tree along the Dardagna creek. This year I was finally able to find the right conditions to capture its strength and beauty.

In the middle of the creek, with strong winds shooting water splashes at me from the bottom and with downpours coming from the top, I can’t say it was relaxing trying to take this picture: water drops on the lens and on the camera, constantly moving branches and leaves, camera movements always lurking.
An hour-and-a-half-long struggle to find the right composition and the right moment.
But I think it was worth it in the end.

Lost in a birch forest near Grövelsjön, close to the border between Sweden and Norway, I came across this sequence of rotting trunks lying on their deathbed made of blueberries, watched over by younger trees like silent relatives gathered in prayer. Suddently, some twisted roots grabbed my gaze like a cold arthritic hand, and dragged me into a visual path through the history of that little corner of paradise.

Wandering around Grövelsjön, near the border between Sweden and Norway, I saw this isolated birch from afar, located near a wetland with spots of cottongrass. As I approached, I was fascinated by its elegance, grace and beauty.

It is not easy to explain how I can be happy in being in the rain and with my boots sunk in a bog surrounded by many birches and cloudberries. It took me a lot of time to be able to get a decent composition into that beautiful chaos of colors and shapes, during the ephemeral Swedish autumn near lake Harundsjon.

Beech trees in a backlight so intense to cancel the burning autumn colors. But even in the resulting black and white effect the forest “burns” anyway, thanks to an intentional camera movement.

When someone asks me why I love autumn so much, I can’t fully explain myself using words. Yesterday, in Lessinia, I took this photograph; I think that it is the best way to explain why I love this season so much.
