Pale di San Martino - Dolomites - Italy

After a week spent checking various weather forecast apps, last Sunday was supposed to be the perfect afternoon to return to the location from the previous post, with temperatures above freezing and a “veiled” sky that would surely have gifted me an epic sunset. Upon arriving on site, full of hope, the sun was instead quickly obscured by dense, dark, compact clouds that completely covered the sky for the entire afternoon and through sunset.
I remained up there, being battered by the wind at altitude until the very last moment, when the sun, having slipped beneath the clouds on the horizon, kissed the peaks with a few faint warm rays for just a few seconds before leaving the entire landscape to the cold blue light, a prelude to the night.

P.S. This is not a poorly handled HDR: the sky was genuinely gloomy, and the last fleeting rays of the sun illuminated the peaks, allowing them to ‘emerge’.
